Is Your Optical Transmitter Test Cost Higher Than Necessary?
Massive leaps in fields such as IoT, AI, and ML are intensifying the need for high-speed data centers to increase the power efficient data handling capacity to ensure efficient function, accessibility, and further development of these applications. One way to achieve this is by upgrading the network infrastructure, which usually involves changes to the optical transceivers. New generations of optical transceivers usually achieve higher speeds by increasing the data rate per lane, employing complex modulation methods, and by increasing the number of lanes in the transmitter. Digital Communication Analyzers (DCAs) are often key measurement instruments used for transmitter testing in optical transceiver manufacturing, where cost of test and throughput are critical. This application note presents approaches to reduce the cost of optical transceiver test while ensuring measurement quality, enabling ease of use, and optimizing test setup using the Flexible Optical Test Optimization (FlexOTO) software. FlexOTO’ s configuration flexibility and time break down of test stages allows the user to choose the balance between measurement throughput and Hardware resource utilization, two major contributors to manufacturing cost-of-test.
