Video Rastering on InfiniiVision 6000 X-Series Oscilloscopes
Traditionally, in order to raster video signals, an analog oscilloscope in XY mode was required. The user would have to separate horizontal and vertical sync signals, process the signal, and feed it into the oscilloscope. Now, with the Keysight InfiniiVision 6000 X-Series oscilloscopes, video rasterization has moved into the digital era.
Video Rastering
The video raster option for the 6000 X-Series oscilloscopes allows you to easily trigger and raster videos from both HD and non-HD video signals. In addition, this solution can also raster a wide range of non-standard video signals by independently controlling the Horizontal Sync Rate.
1. Supported HD formats
– 480p/60, 567p/50, 720p/50, 720p/60
– 1080i/50, 1080i/60
– 1080p/24, 1080p/25, 1080p/30, 1080p/50, 1080p/60
– Generic (custom bi-level and tri-level sync video standards)
2. Supported analog formats
–NTSC, PAL, PAL-M, and SECAM
– Included standard with InfiniiVision 6000 X-Series oscilloscopes
Configuration
A video rastering system requires a Keysight InfiniiVision 6000 X-Series oscilloscope, and either DSOX6RASTER (enables video rastering capabilities), or DSOX6ETS (Emission and Emanation Test Suite, enables all software options for the 6000 X-Series oscilloscopes excluding MSO, bandwidth, and NOMIC).
Tips and Techniques
Use the techniques below to optimize the video rastering capabilities of the InfiniiVision 6000 X-Series oscilloscope. Proper use of triggering, acquisition modes, FFTs, and the 12.1” capacitive touch screen will help reduce random signal noise and improve the quality of rasterized images.
Triggering
Use any video or edge triggering in combination with zone qualified triggering for best results.
1. Set up desired hardware trigger
– The video triggering capability offers triggering on all lines or individual lines, odd/even or all fields from composite video, or broadcast standards.
2. Set up the desired trigger. Press the “Trigger” button on the front panel and change the “trigger type” to any of the twelve configurable trigger conditions. Triggers are processed in the MegaZoom IV ASIC and will not adversely affect oscilloscope performance.
3. For additional trigger qualification, draw a box on the screen using the touch screen or a mouse and select desired zone trigger option.
Signal scaling
In order to achieve maximum SNR, it is crucial to scale the signal so that it fills the screen vertically. This optimizes the oscilloscope's bits of resolution. In some cases, it may even be helpful to vertically clip the horizontal blanking pulses in order to maximize the video signal on the screen.
