Required Equipment

• 82357B USB/GPIB interface, or USB cable (with type A/4-prong male or type mini-B/5-prong male connectors depending on device used).
• Personal Computer with I/O Libraries Suite

For Firmware Revision A.xx.xx

Step 1. Connect the USB/GPIB interface or USB cable between your PC and the instrument.

Step 2. Turn the instrument on.

Step 3. Rename "E498xx.x.xx.xx.exe" with "fw_upd.exe".

Step 4. Execute the Command Prompt on your computer.

Step 5. Change the current folder to the temporary working folder with the "fw_upd.exe" file using cd command.

Step 6.
   USB/GPIB interface: Enter fw_upd.exe GPIB0::17::INSTR command to execute the firmware update program.
   USB Cable: Enter fw_upd.exe USB0::2391::2313::MY12345678::0::INSTR command to execute the firmware update program.

   Note: GPIB0::17::INSTR and USB0::2391::2313::MY12345678::0::INSTR are the instruments VISA address. Refer to the I/O libraries.

Step 7. Wait a few minutes until the command prompt is displayed again.

Step 8. Press System key on the front panel to check the firmware revision.

For Firmware Revision B.xx. xx

[When the instrument can connect to LAN]

Step 1. Connect LAN to your instrument and turn the instrument on.

Step 2. Download the firmware to your PC.

Step 3. Open Windows Explorer and double-click E498x_B.xx.xx.exe.

Step 4. Click Yes on User Account Control Dialog.

Step 5. Click Next > on Keysight Instrument Setup.

Step 6. Select ‘Update instrument directly using LAN’, then click Next >.

Step 7. Select IP Address and enter CURREN IP ADDR at SYSTEM CONFIG

Step 8. Click Install, then click Finish.

Step 9. When Program Compatibility Assistant is displayed, click "X" or "Cancel".

Step 10. Wait until the Firmware update is completed.

Step 11. Turn the instrument off, then turn the instrument on. 

Step 12. Press System key on the front panel to check the firmware revision.

[When instrument cannot connect to LAN]

Step 1. Insert your USB drive to your PC and download the firmware to your USB drive.

Step 2. Open Windows Explorer and double-click E498x_B.xx.xx.exe at your USB drive.

Step 3. Click Yes on User Account Control Dialog.

Step 4. Click Next > on Keysight Instrument Setup.

Step 5. Select ‘Prepare a USB drive for front panel update’, then click Next >.

Step 6. Select the Folder which the USB drive is located, then click Install.

Step 7. Click Finish and verify if E498xA.UPD exists at USB drive.

Step 8. When Program Compatibility Assistant is displayed, click "X" or "Cancel".

Step 9. Remove your USB drive from your PC.

Step 10. Turn the instrument on and insert your USB drive to the instrument.

Step 11. Press System key on the front panel, then press SERVICE, MORE, UPDATE FIRMWARE in series.

Step 12. Wait until the firmware update is completed.

Step 13. Turn the instrument off, then turn the instrument on.

Step 14. Press SYSTEM key on the front panel to check the firmware revision.
